Amy Winehouse Arrested for Marijuana Possession
According to People Magazine, Amy Winehouse was arrested yesterday in Norway for marijuana possession. The singer, who seems to be known just as much for her her drug use as her singing, was in Norway as part of her tour.
Winehouse was in her hotel room at the Berdgen Radisson, when someone tipped off the police that there were drugs in the room. The police went to her room, where they found .25 ounces of marijuana. Winehouse was arrested along with her husband and another man.
Winehouse was released from jail after about a 12 hour stay after paying a 500 euro fine, which is close to $715 US. Both men were also fined and released. The paying of the fines resolved the case and there will be no further action against any of the parties.
It has not been a good week for Winehouse, as her tour good off to a bad start in Berlin, when she tripped and staggered on stage and forgot some of the lyrics to a song.
While I realize from all of the gossip about Winehouse that she does likely have a serious drug problem, who would turn someone into the police for pot? Unless the caller saw the group with harder drugs earlier in the night and then by the time the police arrived all that was left was marijuana? Maybe the call from the neighboring hotel room whose occupants had trouble sleeping due to a contact buzz.? Or perhaps the hotel staff themselves or other people who do not like Winehouse did not want her staying there, so the called police, thinking that there would likely be drugs?
What is so silly about this “crime” is that if she had been found with marijuana a few days later, when her tour heads to Amsterdam, it would not have resulted in an arrest, because pot is legal there.
